What's Going On?

Della Farrell April 30, 2010

Based on the current value of our WNC stock (WABASH NATL CORP)I would continue my investment. This stock has provided to be extremely fruitful with our earnings from it to be 2,937.20 dollars. I would also continue our investment in IDSA (INDUS SVCS AMER). From IDSA we have gained 3,562.20 dollars. I would however discontinue our investment in TWILL. We have lost 247.60 dollars. I would not sell it right away I would sit on it until we make back some of what we lost and then I would sell it because TWILL provided to be an unreliable and unprofitable investment.

If I were to use my own money in this game I would invest in companies like Microsoft, Coca Cola and Google. Even though my profit would be slow growing I would not mind because I find trading to be too risky for my tastes.

Berkshire Hathaway 4/16/2010

Della Farrell 4/16/2010
Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is one of the top companies on the market today. The multi-billion dollar corporation is a giant in the stock market yet many investment strategists warn against investing. Because the company is so huge there lacks the possibility of risk -a key factor in making a profit- so the amount you invest will not be much different from the amount you receive in the end. Though it is without a doubt that Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is an extremely profitable investment, it just depends on how much and for how long you can stay in the game.\

Berkshire Hathaway was named number three on the list of the world's most admired companies by CNN Money. Berkshire Hathaway's legendary success is still bait for many investors looking to make it big. "Berkshire's class A and B shares have been some of the best-performing stocks ever, last year increasing in book value by 19.8%." Berkshire Hathaway is a super giant in the stock exchange and unless disaster strikes it is a safe and profitable bet.

Della 4/7/2010

Despite your anticipated disapproval I admit I spend over half my income on cigarettes, specifically Camels. Reynolds American Inc. is the parent company of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is the company in charge of manufacturing and selling Camel cigarettes. Stock for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is trading at $54.312. Recently the FDA has banned cigarette companies from giving out free samples of their products and the advertisement of their products on promotional gear, concerts and sporting events. I would expect this to lower the stock for R.J. Reynolds because federal laws are constricting the outreach cigarette companies have, limiting their involvment in media and culture, leading to a decrease in popularity and money. I would not invest in this. Cigarette companies are notourious for being evil and thriving on immoral methods. This doesn't bother me, cigarettes are lethal but so is icecream.

Verizon Wireless

A company that I spend a lot of money on monthly, is Verizon Wireless. Stock Symbol: VZ - selling at $30.39 per stock.

According to recent headlines, CGW and Verizon are working together to recycle their phones. Such actions will lead to an increase in the price of the stock. As a consumer, I would not invest in Verizon Wireless, because although the price of the stock is said to increase soon, the past history of the stock is constant for the most part and will not make me money.

Corporate Responsibility: In my opinion, the way a company acts does influence my decision of investing in that company. Knowing that Verizon is going to make the iPhone available to their customers would increase my motivation to invest in Verizon closer to the date of the iPhone's release.

Classwork #5

1.Key points of the article include the economists’ negative views towards closure of the plant. Also, they include the already roof breaking unemployment percentages which will be hit even harder by the estimated 4700 layoffs due to closure of the Toyota plant.

2.The author believes that it is a bad idea to close the plant and on the contrary the plant should take on more business such as producing an extra Toyota model such as a hybrid. The author feels that it is a sign of disrespect from Toyota since California is the number one consumer state of Toyotas in the United States. I do agree with his opinion although I do also understand that the nation is indeed going through a recession which may also be greatly affecting Toyota as a business.

3.Toyota owes its respect and regards to California since it consumes about 18% of all Toyotas manufactured. It is a great part of the reason that Toyota is the wealthiest auto manufacturer in the world and should be considered more deeply in a situation such as closure of a large plant such as the one they plan to get rid of by the end of this month.
